报告摘要（ABSTRACT）：

Insight and analytics driven business transactions need to leverage emerging high variety and high volume of data (social media data, mobile locations, web click streams, etc) for business effectiveness (customer retention and marketing) and protection (e.g., fraud prevention). A novel middleware layer for the convergence of OLTP and analytics with orders of magnitude superior performance is critically needed to process data in a timely manor for synergetic integration of insights with transactions. ZettaBee is a distributed data middleware & includes in-memory data store for current transaction data to achieve high throughput; compressed data for agile analytics, and concurrent persistence on distributed environment petabyte scalability. In the talk, I will discuss the middleware design and potential use cases to eCommerce and other business analytics applications.

报告人简介（BIOGRAPHY）：

Dr. Yuqing Gao is a Sr manager and a Research Staff Member at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, where she is a PI for the Data Centric Computing Strategic Initiative, leading the research and development of elastic analytics and data processing framework for data-centric systems. She is a co-PI for the Workload Optimized Systems Strategic Initiative. She headed the Laboratory for Speech-to-Speech Translation Systems at IBM in 2006-2008. She was the principal investigator of DARPA Babylon, CAST and TransTac Programs at IBM in 2001-2008, and led research and development of IBM MASTOR (Multilingual Automatic Speech-to-Speech Translator) systems, which received exceptional reviews for its superior accuracy and robustness, speed and memory efficiency. She won two awards from DARPA for her exemplary work & breakthroughs in the machine translation technologies and applications in military and homeland security areas. She received the IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award for her paper “Maximum entropy direct models for speech recognition” in 2007. In 2004, Dr. Gao’s work was recognized by MIT’s Technology Review Magazine as one of the “Ten emerging technologies that will change your world”. In 2005, her work was a cover story about “What’s Next” in Time magazine. She was featured by CNN, ABC, BBC and many major media. The most significant societal impact of her accomplishments was in the donation of $45M of speech-to-speech translation technology to US military by IBM. She received IBM Corporate Award, Outstanding Innovation Awards and Research Division Awards. She is an IEEE Fellow, a member of IBM Academy of Technology, published over 120 papers, holds over 30 issued patents.
